As the City of Bremerton transitions from nine council districts to seven, there will be at least one primary election.

The filing period for all candidates in Kitsap County began May 13 and ends at 5 p.m. May 17. Here’s a  look at where things stood Wednesday as the paper went to press. Updates are available on the Kitsap County Auditor’s website at www.kitsapgov.com.

In the new Bremerton City Council District 3, incumbent city council member Adam Brockus is seeking reelection and will face at least two challengers. So far, Jerald (Jerry) McDonald and Michael Strube have also filed to run for the seat.

Other contested races in Bremerton include District 1, featuring newcomers Cynthia Galloway and Mike Sullivan; District 6, featuring incumbent Faye Flemister and former District 4 council member Roy Runyon.

Running unopposed for the time being in Bremerton are Mayor Patty Lent, Greg Wheeler in District 4, Dino Davis in District 5, Municipal Court Judge James Doctor and Carolynn Perkins for Bremerton School District Director Position 5.

In Silverdale, Bruce Richards is unopposed the Central Kitsap School District 1 position for a four-year term. The District 4 race features recently appointed Jeanie Schulze and Victoria Crescenzi.

At Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, Position 2 Commissioner David Fergus and Position 4 Commissioner Ken Erickson are unopposed.

In local port action, Bremerton District 2 Commissioner Larry Stokes is unopposed as is Illahee District 3 Commissioner James Aho. At the Port of Brownsville, Fred Perkins is also so far unopposed in his bid for a two-year unexpired term for the District 2 seat.

Running unopposed for water district seats are Stephanie Marone for Position 1 at the North Perry Water District; Glenn Patterson for Position 1 at the Sunnyslope Water District; and John Poppe for Position 2 at the Silverdale Water District.
