Kitsap County troopers arrest police impersonator near Poulsbo

Troopers responded to a 911 call regarding a possible police impersonator early this morning. The suspect, Trevor A. Schwarz, 21, was arrested. He also admitted pulling over another driver in Silverdale on July 25.

Troopers responded to a 911 call regarding a possible police impersonator early this morning and located and stopped the suspect a short time later in north Kitsap County.

Troopers made the traffic stop on the suspect vehicle on State Road 305 at 1:55 a.m. near Poulsbo.

According to a Washington State Patrol press release, “WSP Bremerton Communications received the original call from a motorist traveling east on the Hood Canal Bridge. The caller advised that a Ford F250 truck had attempted to pull them over using red and blue emergency lights. The caller said once they pulled over they observed an older two tone, Ford F250, pass them and then run a red light at the intersection of State Road 3 and State Road 104.”

The motorist provided a license plate and other distinguishing information to authorities.  Within 15 minutes, troopers observed the suspect vehicle bearing license plates matching the caller description and initiated a felony traffic stop on the truck.

The driver of the vehicle, Trevor A. Schwarz, 21, of Poulsbo was taken into custody without further event. Troopers located a fully loaded H&K .40 caliber pistol underneath the driver’s seat that Schwarz did not have a permit for when arrested.

In the vehicle were the red and blue emergency lights which the suspect had removed and placed behind the passenger seat. The suspect admitted to using the emergency lights on the bridge that night because the vehicle in front was driving too slow and also admitted to running the red light so the other driver could not report him.

Schwarz also admitted to a similar scenario that occurred on July 25. A driver had reported that a vehicle activated emergency lights and when the driver pulled over on Kitsap Mall Blvd., the “police vehicle” sped past, running a red light.

He was arrested and booked into Kitsap County jail on charges of Criminal Impersonation and Unlawful Carrying of Weapon. Bail is set at $45,000.
