A fumble with less than a minute to play cost the Bremerton football team a victory against North Kitsap Oct. 16.
With the score tied 14-14 and the Knights driving, NK defensive back Alex Flores recovered a Kyle Kennedy fumble at the Vikings’ 10-yard line, running it back 90 yards for a touchdown with 55 seconds left.
The Knights (1-6 overall, 0-5 league) trailed 14-7 going into the fourth quarter, but tied the game on a 9-yard Kennedy touchdown run. BHS has failed to win a game since opening the season with a 35-12 victory over winless Klahowya.
Billy Davenport started at quarterback, completing 10 of 27 passes for 144 yards. He also carried the ball 16 times for 147 yards, scoring on a 1-yard run.
Flores’ return was his second touchdown of the game, the other coming on a 40-yard reception in the first quarter.
It was Homecoming Night for the Knights, who look to get back on track today at Port Angeles. Game time is 7 p.m.
Volleyball
With one game to play in the regular season, the Bremerton volleyball team is out of the playoff picture.
The Lady Knights (4-9, 4-6) dropped a road match against Olympic 3-0 Tuesday, their second consecutive loss. The team ends the season at home Tuesday against North Kitsap, which is ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press state volleyball poll.
Boys tennis
An Ho advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic League boys tennis tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over John Winn of Port Angeles in the quarterfinals.
But the senior couldn’t outlast champion Cory Smith of Olympic in the semis, losing 6-1, 6-4. Ho followed the loss with a win against Rex Olson in the consolation bracket — 6-2, 6-4 — but with a chance to move into the match for third and fourth, he lost to Micah Roos of Port Angeles 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles action, Justin Wells and James Hill defeated teammates Doug Erickson and Matt Pohl to secure fourth place. Pohl and Erickson lost in the first round to eventual champs Jordan Seth and Alex Olson of North Kitsap, but the duo rebounded to win four consecutive matches en route to the fifth-place finish.
Wells and Hill, meanwhile, made it out of the first round, but were then sent to the consolation bracket thanks to a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
No Knights advanced to the district tournament, which is in the spring.
