BOOK SALE: The North Kitsap Friends of the Library will hold its legendary book sale today from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Poulsbo Library meeting Room. Books are divided into categories to make locating titles easier. Hardbacks and large paperbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents; children’s books are 25 cents.

FISHLINE: It’s a Super Saturday Sale at the NK Fishline Thrift Store from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Many items will be on sale including all furniture and artwork, clothing and shoes and household and decorator items. All proceeds support the non-profit Fishline food bank and client services. NKFOL: The North Kitsap Friends of the Library will meet Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Poulsbo Library meeting room. The program will feature Jeff Compton of the Nature Conservancy, who will talk about their mission to preserve plants, animals, and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Guests and new members are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION: Portraying the Plant classes are offered through Poulsbo Parks & Recreation Wednesdays, Oct. 8-Nov. 19, from 7-9:30 p.m. at North Kitsap High School. Beginners & more experienced artists welcome; students will learn observation & measurement skills, watercolor washes, and dry brush technique to render realistic leaves, flowers, and other botanical subjects. Supplies may be purchased through the instructor, Kathleen McKeehen, freelance illustrator and botanical artist. Cost is $118 for the 7-week course.

GHOULSBO: Kids Day in historic downtown Poulsbo will be held Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several booths will be set-up on Front Street with free kids activities to celebrate the Halloween Spirit. Come in costume and participate in pumpkin decorating, mask making, coloring sheets and more. Vote on your favorite scarecrow, store decorations and halloween spirit. THE ARTIST’S WAY: Creating Joy with “the Artist’s Way,” a 13-session group to focus on self recovery and self discovery to remove any blocks to leading the life we would enjoy, will meet every other Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning on Oct. 13 and ending March 30. SALSA DANCING: Malo and Rose Castro offer salsa dancing classes in Poulsbo, including the meringue, salsa, and the cha-cha. Singles or couples welcome. FISH PARK: The monthly work parties at Poulsbo’s Fish Park will be the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning Sept. 20. The public is welcome to join in to help this nature park grow into an urban experience for all to enjoy.
