PORT ANGELES — Double event victories by John Macias, Tristin Butler and Jay Liang helped the Port Angeles boys swim team cruise to a 116-67 victory against North Kitsap Dec. 18.

“John Macias and Tristin Butler continued their collection of individual state qualifying times,” Roughriders coach Rich Butler said.

“John earned two more state times in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Tristin added one more with his swim in the 500 free. Four more district times were achieved by fellow teammates.”

Liang’s victories came in the 200 individual medley, where he earned a district qualifying time, and the 100 breaststroke.

Port Angeles won 10 of 12 contested events and outscored the Vikings in 10 of 12 events.

Butler added that the Riders head into winter break with six individual state qualifying times, all three relay teams have qualified for state and 21 individual swims qualified for the district meet.

Earning district qualifying times in Thursday’s meet were Milo Atwater with a win in the 100 backstroke, Kaleb Sheldon with a third-place finish in the 100 fly, and Nathan Bock, who was fifth in the 200 free.

Macias, Liang, Butler and Kody Kuch teamed to win the 200 medley relay, and Karsten Hertzog, Butler, Liang and Macias were winners in the 400 free relay.

Scott Methner also won the 1 meter dive event for Port Angeles with 186.95 points. North Kitsap does not have a dive team.

Crescent’s Patrick Singhose, who trains with the Roughriders but competes for the Loggers earned his second individual district qualifying time of the season in the 200 individual medley with a posted time of 2:28.39.

Port Angeles will next swim against Klahowya at Olympic High School on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The Vikings next swim against Sequim Wolves Jan. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
