Roller derby event returns to Bremerton

The second annual “Wild West Showdown” women’s roller derby competition will return to the Kitsap Pavilion March 4 to 6. The 2011 tournament will feature 17 teams from across the United States battling on three tracks next week. Tickets are now available for Friday ($15), Saturday ($25) and Sunday ($25). A three-day ticket costs $55.

CK’s relay squad wins state title

The Central Kitsap High School boys swimming team brought home a state championship Feb. 19 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, thanks to the Cougars’ relay squad of Brendan Weiner, Jeremy Torres, Jason Soria and Tyler Hirata.
The four-man relay squad won the Class 4A state title in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.55, holding off Eastlake High School (Sammamish), which finished in 1:29.80.
The relay team improved nearly two seconds from their preliminary time of 1:31.02.
The Cougars placed ninth as a team at the state tournament with a total point tally of 111.
