TACOMA — The man who pleaded guilty to stealing mail from communities in Jefferson and Kitsap counties wrote a letter to the judge prior to his sentencing.

Adam Lysiak, 38, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, possession of stolen mail and bank fraud in November. He was arrested in February 2013 after he was found with more than 1,000 pounds of stolen mail from Jefferson and Kitsap counties. Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island were among the more severely hit communities in Lysiak’s string of thefts.

Lysiak wrote a letter to U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Leighton prior to his sentencing on Feb. 28. In it, Lysiak details his childhood experiences in an abusive home, surrounded by alcohol and drug abuse. He apologizes for what he has done and states that he would like to pursue drug treatment and vocational training while incarcerated.
