SUQUAMISH — Suquamish Tribe Chairman Leonard Forsman and Lena Tunkara, child support case manager in the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe’s Child Support Enforcement Program, are representing their Tribal governments at the 2014 White House Tribal Nations Conference.

The conference is Dec. 3 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.

President Obama is hosting the conference, according to WhiteHouse.gov. The annual conference provides leaders from the 566 federally recognized Tribes the opportunity to interact directly with the President and members of the White House Council on Native American Affairs. Each federally recognized Tribe was invited to send one representative to the conference.

This is the sixth White House Tribal Nations Conference for the Obama Administration, and continues to build upon the President’s commitment to strengthen the government-to-government relationship between the U.S. and Indian Country and to improve the lives of Native Americans.

During the conference, Forsman co-chaired a breakout session on natural resources with EPA administrator Gina McCarthy.

In addition to their roles in Tribal government, Forsman is an Obama appointee to the U.S. Advisory Council on Historic Preservation; Tunkara is a member of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Foundation board of directors.
