State Route 3 cleared following rollover accident

POULSBO — A three-car collision that included a rolled over semi-trailer Friday morning blocked the southbound lane of State Route 3 near Big Valley Road.

The scene was cleared by 3 p.m.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Ron Kessler said a semi traveling northbound on SR 3 at about 10:30 a.m. when a southbound sedan driven by a 70-year-old Port Angeles woman veered into the northbound lane. The semi swerved onto the northbound shoulder to avoid a collision, but was hit by the sedan, forcing the semi into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane.

The semi drove into the ditch on the side of the southbound lane to avoid a head-on collision, causing his the semi-trailer to tip over onto a Honda occupied by an 80-year-old woman and 85-year-old man from Sequim.

No injuries were reported at the scene. The USF Reddaway truck was carrying assorted shipments, including a pallet of fireworks.

Kessler said quick thinking by semi driver Larry Cook, 41, of Tacoma had helped prevent a more serious collision.

“Basically what we have is a glorified three-car collision,” Kessler said. “It could have been a very bad day, but instead it’s a good day.”
