NK FASTPITCH SUFFERS LOSS TO BAINBRIDGE

On Thursday the Vikings traveled to Bainbridge and fell 6-0.

“We are playing better and starting to hit the ball better,” head coach Bill Hobaugh wrote in an e-mail. “We played well on defense making some good plays but Bainbridge hit the ball very well.”

Game stats: Ashley Tobin pitched five innings and Jenneke Oostman pitched two. Jordan Jewett had two hits, one of which was a double. On April 7 the Vikings play South Kitsap at South Kitsap.

KHS BASEBALL WINS FOURTH IN A ROW

On Friday The Bucs traveled to Sequim and defeated the Wolves 4-1.

Game stats: Chris Jones pitched seven innings and tallied four strikeouts and gave up one run and five hits; catcher is Theron Rahier. KHS hitting, Reuben Smith had two hits for two runs and an RBI; Chris Jones had one hit, scored one run and posted two RBIs; Danny Orr had one hit, a double and an RBI. Senior third baseman Robert Jordan made three outstanding defensive plays to rob Sequim hitters of possible hits and keep the Wolves off base for Jones.

The Bucs have an 1-0 record in Olympic League 2A division, and a 3-1 Olympic League record overall. The Bucs traveled to Port Townsend on Tuesday. Results of the game were not available at presstime. The Bucs return home on April 10 to take on Shelton High School.

KHS TRACK PERFORMS STRONG ONCE AGAIN

On Friday the teams competed in a dual-dual style meet against North Mason and Olympic high schools.

KHS girls defeated NM 89-48, and Olympic 94-48. KHS boys lost to NM 91-51 and Olympic 82-52.

On Saturday the girls placed first out of eight teams at the Fife April Fool’s Invitational. The boys placed seventh at Fife.

“The girls’ team is off to a fantastic start, winning on Friday against league opponents North Mason and Olympic High Schools as well as taking first at the Fife April Fool’s Day Invitational on Saturday,” head girls’ coach Karla Laubach wrote in an e-mail. “Numerous athletes came in first place, and many others improved their personal bests. The boys have also had impressive performances, but came behind North Mason and Olympic and were in seventh place at Fife’s invitational.”

KHS v NM and Oly girls results: Kayla Campbell won the 100-meter dash and the 200 m with times of 13.1 and 27.4 seconds and won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 6 inches; Jamie Schultz placed second in the 200 m with a time of 27.7 seconds and placed third in the long jump and won the triple jump with distances of 14 feet, 8 inches and 32 feet, 4 inches; Ruby Roberts won the 400 m and 800 m with times of 1 minute, 1.4 seconds and 2:31.8; Tatum Larson places third in the 400 m with a time of 1:08.5; Rose Bishop won the 1600 m and the 3200 m with times of 6:16.4 and 13:20.9; Renee Henderson placed second and third in the 100 m- and 300 m-hurdles with times of 19.8 and 58; KHS placed second in the 400×100 m-relay and first in the 4×200 m and 4×400 m with times of 58.8; 2:11.6 and 4:43.8; Anika Kramberger placed third in the discuss and third in the javelin with distances of 86 feet, one inch and 49 feet, one inch, respectively; Elsa Brown placed second in the javelin with a throw of 52 feet; KHS swept the pole vault as Dana Van Wyck, Mariecel Robles, Becca Williamson and Taylor Halady place first, second, third and fourth, respectively with heights of 6 feet, 6 inches, 5 feet, 6 inches, 5 feet and 5 feet.

Boys results: Stephan Simonson won the 400 m with a time of 55.8; Benjamin Stamper placed third in the 800 m, fifth in the 1600 m and third in the 3200 m with times of 2:22.5, 5:02.9 and 10:54.6; KHS 4×400 m placed second with a time of 4:00.5; Alex Van Deen placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus with throws of 41 feet, 3 inches and 99 feet, 1 inch, respectively; Ari Ekonomakis placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 102 feet; Aaron Bilbao, Sam Shoemaker and Alexander Tweten placed first, third and fifth, respectively in the pole vault with heights of 12 feet, 10 feet and 9 feet, 6 inches; Jack Clearman, Jon Sudduth and Sean Johnstone placed first, second and third respectively in the long jump with distances of 19 feet, 6 inches, 16 feet, 11 inches and 15 feet, 6 inches; Clearman and Sudduth placed first and third in the triple jump, respectively with distances of 38 feet, 8 inches and 34 feet, 1 inch.

Fife Invitational girls results: Campbell placed second in the 100 m and 200 m with times of 13.58 and 28.43 and won the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 6 inches; Schultz placed fifth in the 200 with a time of 29.54 and third in the long jump and first in the triple jump with distances of 14 feet, 4 inches and 32 feet, 2 inches; Brittany Peterson placed third in the 400 m with a time of 1:14.68; Roberts won the 1600 m and 3200 m with times of 5:29.43 and 11:44.79; Bishop placed third in the 3200 m with a time of 12:48.44; Henderson placed fourth in the 100 m and 300 m-hurdles with times of 20.18 and 57.87; KHS placed second in the 4×100 m and 4×200 m and won the 4×400 m with times of 100.24, 1:58.21 and 4:34.12; Kramberger placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 81 feet, 2 inches; Robels, Van Wyck and Williamson all tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 5 feet.

Boys results: Stamper placed fourth in the 3200 m with a time of 11:01.47; Richard Urie placed fifth in the 110 m-high hurdles with a time of 19.66; Shoemaker and Tweten placed second and fourth, respectively in the pole vault with heights of 9 feet, 6 inches and 8 feet, 6 inches.
