Poulsbo home burns, resident displaced

Fire crews responded to a call for a brush fire but found a Poulsbo home on fire instead.

POULSBO — It was called in as a brush fire, but when firefighters arrived on scene they instead found a Poulsbo home ablaze in the early morning hours of July 15.

Fire crews with the Poulsbo Fire Department, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Navy Region Northwest responded to a 911 call for a brush fire at 3:15 a.m. Once on scene, firefighters found a house on fire in the 20000 block of Pugh Road. The front porch and entrance to the home were on fire and smoke alarms inside the home were sounding.

A 50-year-old man soon emerged from the home, awakened by the alarms.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out within 10 minutes. There were no damage estimates as of 11 a.m. July 15, but the front porch and entrance to the home were destroyed. Smoke damage was found throughout the home.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced resident of the home.

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire to determine its cause.
