I live on the South Kingston Road, near the Carpenter Creek Bridge.

Last spring, when I first heard about construction of the replacement bridge, my first thoughts were, “Well, there goes the summer, as well as fall.” I am semi-retired, use the bridge frequently during the day, and all I could think of was the noise, the long exasperating delays and general confusion that seems to surround almost every construction site I have ever seen. Although I too, want to provide a healthy area for salmon, I was worried.

Instead, thanks to the professionalism of the crew, I enjoyed watching a wonderful new bridge take shape, but there was no confusion and I was never delayed. During the entire time of construction, I was not delayed or inconvenienced — even one time.

The temporary bridge was a fine idea. But the real credit goes to the ladies who controlled the traffic. They were out there every day, in every kind of weather, and totally alert and aware of the traffic flow at all times. They moved us all along with skill and a real sense of everyones needs. They were organized, polite and always on top of what was happening on the site.

These ladies were my angels of summer, as well as fall and now winter, and they deserve a lot of thanks from everyone in our community who came anywhere near the bridge construction.
