Library levy: Taxpayers can’t afford it

It is ironic that the Sept. 24 Herald should include one of those well orchestrated “support the library” letters to the editor and at the same time contain a list of 143 properties being foreclosed upon for unpaid property taxes.

These “support the library” letters which are appearing regularly as they are assigned to the writers make no mention of what support is. Support is a 38 percent increase in the library property tax. A 38 percent increase in the library tax when we have lists 143 properties long beng auctioned off because of taxes people cannot afford to pay.

We all support the library. We have to. It is on our property tax bill. If we don’t support the library, we end up on a list of people losing their property. But we do not have to add to our burden by voting for more taxes in November. Support yourself, your family and your friends by voting no on significantly higher library taxes.
