North Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 0

The Vikings (9-0-1 league, 10-1-2 overall) clinched the Olympic League title Tuesday with a win over Port Angeles at Strawberry Field.

“One of our goals was to win league, and now at this stage, it’s to go undefeated,” North Kitsap Head Coach Dee Taylor said.

The Vikings play their next game Oct. 27 at Bremerton, and their final regular season game will be Oct. 28 against Klahowya. District playoffs begin Nov. 3.

North Mason 2, Kingston 0

The Buccaneers lost in an upset to North Mason Tuesday night, giving the Bulldogs their first win of the 2009 season.

“It’s what you would call a shocker,” Kingston Head Coach Craig Smith said.

The Bucs dropped to 5-5-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Olympic League with the loss. Kingston hosts Sequim Thursday at Buccaneer Field.

TENNIS

North Kitsap High School will send three boys tennis players to the district playoffs next spring. Jordan Seth and Alex Olson won the top Olympic League spot in doubles by beating Port Angeles’s Hayden McCartney and Sam Beasely in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Sophomore Zach Fohn will fill the no. 2 spot in the singles bracket, after defeating Port Angeles’s Micah Roos in two sets but losing the championship match to Olympic High’s Cory Smith.

VOLLEYBALL

North Kitsap High defeated Port Angeles in three sets Tuesday, with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-14. The win gives North Kitsap (11-0 league, 16-2 overall) the no. 1 seed in the Olympic League going into the upcoming sub-district tournament.

Sophomore Sarah Baugh led the Viking offense with 23 kills and 12 assists Tuesday. Claire Torstenbo was perfect serving and added nine digs and four kills. North Kitsap plays their next game Thursday at Bainbridge Island.

Kingston fell to North Mason Tuesday in four sets, with scores of 25-21, 25-19, 27-25, 25-20. Sarah McMullan led the Buccaneer defense with 22 digs. The Bucs play their next game Thursday at home.
