POULSBO — Rose Marie Thomas died Jan. 16 at home of natural causes, surrounded by family and friends. She was 80.

Born on March 17, 1932 in Louisville, Ky. to Margaret Ann and Norbert Daniel Hummel. Attended Loretto High School and Ursuline College, graduating with a bachelor of arts in English in 1954. Received a master’s in religious education from Seattle University.

Married to Rudolph Delphin Thomas for 55 years. School, community and church volunteer. Director of religious education for St. Olaf’s Parish in Poulsbo.

Member of the League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women. An avid reader. Loved to travel and share stories about her faith. Her home was always open to friends and visitors.

Survived by her children, Rudolph Thomas Jr. (Catriona) of Charlottesville, Va., Joseph Hayden Thomas (Shannon) of Portland, Ore., John Quincy Thomas (Paula) of San Diego, Calif., Matthew Hummel Thomas (Cristina) of Tacoma, Bridget Mary Brewer (Kevin) of Lynnwood, Marie Julia Thomas of Martigues, France; siblings, Norbert Hummel Jr. (Jane), Sr. Patricia Hummel and Sr. Margaret Hummel of Louisville, Ky., and Sr. Ellen Hummel of Philadelphia, Pa.; and 16 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; daughters, Mary Pat and Margaret Ann; sister, Mary Jane Hummel.

Visitation Jan. 20, 6-7 p.m., at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 18943 Caldart Ave., Poulsbo. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Jan. 21, 11 a.m., at St. Olaf’s, followed by a reception in church hall. Burial at Mountainview Cemetery  in Poulsbo.
