POULSBO — Investigators are searching for the cause of a Poulsbo fire that destroyed a large garage and damaged an out-of-service auto shop the morning of July 14.

The fire was discovered by the Poulsbo Fire Department’s deputy chief Bruce Peterson as he was driving along Little Valley Road around 6 a.m. Peterson saw a large column of smoke and followed it until he found the source on Genes Lane, and then reported the blaze. The flames had claimed a garage and were spreading to a nearby auto shop by that time.

Fire crews from the Poulsbo Fire Department, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, North Kitsap Fire and Rescue and Navy Region Northwest responded to the call. It took nearly 25 minutes to extinguish the fire, though crews remained on scene to put out hot spots over the morning.

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal was conducting an investigation to determine the fire’s cause.

No one was injured in the fire and it did not spread to neighboring dry plants, according to a press release from the Poulsbo Fire Department. The auto shop has not been used for several years, but there were at least three vehicles that perished in the blaze, including a large commercial vehicle, according to the report.
