POULSBO – The fun — or the fright, depending on how you look at it — begins long before you get to the front door and buy your ticket.
Expect surprises as you drive the forested road to the North Kitsap Eagles lodge off NE Lincoln Road. You’ll pass a graveyard and witches around a boiling cauldron before you get to the door.
By the way, the door’s just past the gallows and the guillotine. But don’t let that stop you. Once inside, you’ll get the wits scared out of you, but you’ll be doing some good.
The Eagles will donate all proceeds to North Kitsap Fishline. Hours are 6-11 p.m. Oct. 28-31. Entry fee is $10 adults, and $8 children younger than 12 with an adult. Bring two food items for Fishline and you get $2 off admission. Take Lincoln Road from 305, turn left at the blinking yellow light just past Stottlemeyer Road.
Volunteers will have worked eight days putting the haunted house together. Inside, there’s a zombie room, vampire room, werewolf room, cavewoman room, chain saw massacre room, and creepy clown room. And there will be witches (Ginny Stultz has her witch’s laugh down pat; she tried it out behind a certain reporter on Tuesday, absolutely not startling him at all).
Fishline is a favorite cause of the Eagles. Annie Myers, who with Sue Hansen is co-coordinator of the event, said the Eagles gave Fishline 200 pounds of food and $1,100 after the last haunted house and a rock ’n’ roll dance in March. A rock ’n’ roll night in September yielded another 146 pounds of food and $400.
The haunted house is one of several events being held to benefit Fishline.
The Poulsbo Middle School Leo Club partnered with Vessels for Charity to craft and sell original, one-of-a-kind clay vessels to raise money for North Kitsap Fishline’s Food for Thought program. Leo Club members presented a check for an unreported amount to Fishline on Wednesday.
The Leo Club is a community service group. LEO stands for Leadership, Equality, Opportunity, and is a teen service organization of Lions Clubs International, which tries to serve people in need with special emphasis on children.
