POULSBO — It’s been long expected after a series of budget discussions, but on Jan. 7 the City Council made it official.
Poulsbo’s utility and cable taxes are going up.
The city’s utility tax will rise from 9 to 12 percent for water and sewer utilities. A 6 percent tax on cable service in the city was also approved.
The increases will take effect — customers will see them reflected on their bills — on Feb. 1.
The cable tax is a form of revenue that the city has always had the option of using, but has not until now. It only applies to cable television service and does not apply to cable Internet service.
The Poulsbo City Council had already approved its 2015 budget in December, which took into account the increase in taxes.
In November, the City Council approved a property tax increase. The new rate is $1.71 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
