POULSBO — Construction is underway on a $10 million medical center making healthcare more convenient for North Kitsap residents.

Work on the Cascade View Medical Center is expected to finish early next year. The two-story, 38,000-square-foot center will sit on 2.5 acres in College Marketplace near the entrance to Olympic College Poulsbo.

It will house a range of services, including diagnostics, radiology and internal medicine, and is expected to draw patients from Jefferson County and Central Kitsap.

Harrison Medical Center will lease space in the building and will relocate internal medicine and adult primary care services currently offered at 19365 7th Avenue in Poulsbo.

Owning partner Olympic Radiology will open its second location in the center, offering North Kitsap’s first open MRI, an imaging machine more comfortable for those who suffer from claustrophobia. The only similar machines in the county are in South Kitsap.

“This will really be a convenience for North Kitsap and Jefferson County patients,” said Allyson Metters, Olympic Radiology service manager.

Olympic Radiology will also install the county’s first fixed PET-CT for oncology imaging, as well as x-ray and ultrasound services.

Olympic Radiology’s Bremerton branch, at 2700 Clare Ave., will remain open.

Several individual physicians have invested in Cascade View Medical Center and will locate offices there, including: John Goessman, endodontist; Michael Jungkeit, ear, nose and throat surgeon; Sheila Lally, general surgeon; Brad and Teresa Andersen, Mark Hoffman and Charles Power of Sound Family Health; and audiologists Diane and Scott Razler.

Advanced Medical Imaging Women’s Diagnostic Center will also lease space in the building.

Owning partners chose the Olhava location for its proximity to both State Route 305 and Highway 3, Metters said.

Bob Cross, director of strategic development at Harrison, said the new center will allow the hospital to align itself with other area providers to develop a wider suite of services for patients.

Harrison will also offer a lab facility at the center.

The hospital also runs a hematology and oncology center at 19500 10th Avenue in Poulsbo. Harrison originally planned to build its own campus in the area, then scrapped those plans, which freed up money for patient-related purchases.

“We’re not in the running-a-building business. We’re in the patient care business,” Cross said.

The Cascade View Medical Center was designed by Rice Fergus Miller of Bremerton and is being constructed by Anderson Construction. Construction began Aug. 12.
