SHINE — The Hood Canal Bridge will close to traffic for 45 minutes between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. tomorrow, June 26. The closure is so pontoon survey work can be conducted. While the roadway will be off-limits to cars for less than an hour, traffic backups could result in even longer waits.
During the closure, crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation and contractor Kiewit General will survey the existing draw span pontoons and determine whether adjustments will be needed in order to properly connect the bridge’s new east half when it is floated to the site in May-June 2009.
To access the pontoons, crews must open the Hood Canal Bridge draw spans, halting traffic across the bridge in both directions to conduct their work.
The Hood Canal Bridge retrofit and replacement project will take place from May-June 2009, during which the bridge will be closed for six-weeks. The project is designed to improve the existing structure, making it wider, safer and more reliable. For more information on the Hood Canal Bridge project, visit www.HoodCanalBridge.com.
