Enormous check boosts Bellringer

Like it came out of the sky, a check for $10,000.

It was given by Anonymous putting the Poulsbo Lion’s Club Bellringer donation drive on track to exceed its goal of $35,000.

John Macdonald, co-chairman for the campaign to ensure all can share in the Christmas spirit, has seen some big checks.

Last week the fund received a check for $1,500.

“We’ve had other donations in that range before but nothing this large,” said Macdonald, who has been working with the campaign for about 20 years and felt compelled to verify the check with the bank.

“Boy did it ever surprise me.”

The campaign accepts smaller donations as well, and many give in memory of loved ones.

In addition to food baskets for Christmas dinner, the fund provides short-term assistance over the holidays to people in need. Baskets are distributed at the North Kitsap Fishline and Kingston’s ShareNet.

Donations to the fund can be dropped off at Frontier Bank in Poulsbo or the North Kitsap Herald office, 18887 Hwy 305, Suite 700.

Donations can also be mailed to Bellringer Fund, P.O. Box 1244, Poulsbo, WA, 98370. All donations are tax deductible through the Raab Foundation, a non-profit created by the Lions Club.
