OLYMPIA — Washington State began accepting applications for marijuana businesses on Nov. 18. And in just two days, the state received 585 applications from producers, processors, retailers, or producer/processors.

Two parties have applied to be producers of the crop in Poulsbo: Cascadia Spirit, and the Law Offices of Wm. F. Barrett.

Barrett applied to be a tier one producer, meaning an operation of less than 2,000 square feet.

Cascadia Spirit applied to be a tier two producer, an operation with the maximum size of 10,000 square feet.

A producer grows the crop for wholesale to processors.

Thirteen applications for producers were submitted in Kitsap County; two on Bainbridge Island, four in Port Orchard, four in Bremerton, one in Olalla, and two in Poulsbo.

The state Department of Revenue is the first stop for the applications. The department handles business licenses.

The state’s Liquor Control Board, charged with managing the new recreational marijuana laws, is the second stop. The board started the approval process on Nov. 20.

More applications are expected to come; deadline is Dec. 19. Applications are available online on the Department of Revenue’s website.

The Liquor Control Board announced that the state will be allowed a total of 334 retail marijuana establishments. Kitsap County is slated to have 10 of those businesses. The number reflects retailers, and does not include additional businesses set up to produce or process marijuana crops.
