POULSBO — The 2014 Tis the Season magazine won first place in its category in the Local Media Association 2015 Advertising & Promotions Contest.

The magazine is a publication of the Bainbridge Island Review and the North Kitsap Herald.

The Local Media Association, formerly known as Suburban Newspapers of America, is a national trade organization with more than 2,000 member newspapers in the U.S. and Canada. It sponsors several contests a year, including Best in Digital Media, Newspaper of the Year/General Excellence, and Excellence in Local News Coverage.

The Review won second place for Newspaper of the Year in 2014; the North Kitsap Herald won third place for Newspaper of the Year in 2012. The Daily Herald in Everett, a sister newspaper, won third place Newspaper of the Year this year for its investigative reporting about medical helicopter response to the shootings at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

Entries in the advertising and promotions contest were judged by national advertising agency executives, media buyers and industry consultants. Other publications in Sound Publishing Kitsap winning awards in the contest: Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce Directory, third place, Best Business Publication or Special Section; and 2014 Home & Garden, third place, Best Cover Design.

The Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce Directory was produced by Sound Publishing in Kitsap for the chamber. Home & Garden is a special section published in the Bainbridge Island Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter, North Kitsap Herald and Port Orchard Independent.

The Bainbridge Island Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter, North Kitsap Herald and Port Orchard Independent have a combined circulation of more than 60,000 in Kitsap County. In addition, the group publishes two monthly newspapers: Kingston Community News and Veterans Life.
