Kingston High band moves into second place in radio contest

The Kingston High School Pep Band moved into second place in a $10,000 music contest sponsored by Seattle radio station KZOK and The Rock Wood Fired Pizza restaurants this week. The band is hoping to take over the top spot, currently held by Puyallup’s Rogers High School.

In October, the band submitted audio and video recordings of its rendition of the classic rock song, “Radar Love” to The School of The Rock — Battle of the Bands contest. The contest pits 33 high school pep bands against each other for the chance to win a $10,000 grand prize. Second place receives $5,000 and a $2,500 consolation prize also will be given.

The contest consists of two rounds. In the first round, anyone can send text message votes to the radio station to support their band of choice. On Feb. 6, the field of 33 bands will be narrowed to the top 10 vote-getters and judges will select the contest winners based on how well the bands execute their songs. To vote for the Kingston High band, send a text message with the words ROCK 10 to 24300. There is a limit of 10 texts per day per phone.
