POULSBO — The National Weather Service issued a heat warning for most of the Puget Sound area through July 1.

The heat warning remains in effect until 11 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to be similar to those on June 30 — a high of 90, according to the weather station at Central Market — with a slightly higher humidity, according to the weather service.

The daytime high for July 1 in Poulsbo is expected to be about 85 degrees.

Anyone sensitive to heat spells, such as the young and elderly, and those working outdoors should make the necessary adjustments.

Poulsbo Fire Station on Liberty Road is opening an air-conditioned conference room for residents to escape the heat. The room is open till 9 p.m. Monday and open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“Take extra precaution if you work or spend time outside,” the weather service advised.

The weather service suggests rescheduling strenuous activity to the morning or evening, and to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

An excessive-heat warning means there is a prolonged period of hot temperatures. A combination of high temperatures and humidity combine to create risk to heat-related illness.

Temperatures are expected to cool July 2, with a high of 79. A cooling trend is expected to continue through July 5, as temperatures decrease to the low 70s.
