A 31-year-old Port Orchard man has been booked into Kitsap County Jail on charges of vehicular assault in connection with a Wednesday afternoon crash in Gorst that left another driver injured.
According to the Washington State Patrol, drugs or alcohol are believed to have been involved in the incident.
Spokeswoman Trooper Krista Hedstrom said the accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Oct. 21 when the 31-year-old Port Orchard man, driving a blue, Dodge Ram pick-up, was pulling out of a coffee stand parking lot near Peninsula Subaru.
“He was headed eastbound, back to Port Orchard, when he lost control of his car and completely spun out” and hit another car head-on, Hedstrom said, explaining that a desk also flew out of the back of pick-up.
The pick-up struck a Nissan Altima driven by 21-year-old USS Stennis sailor as he was headed westbound. That driver suffered head injuries and was airlifted to Harborview.
Hedstrom said Thursday that “miraculously, (the victim’s) injuries were not as serious as indicated shortly after the collision. He is listed in stable condition and is scheduled for release (Thursday) afternoon.”
Hedstrom said his injuries included a “broken hand and an eye/facial injury.”
The suspect sustained minor injuries and was arrested following his discharge from Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. He was booked into Kitsap County Jail under $50,000 bail.
