Support STEM and have a good time

I’m writing as a volunteer for the Kitsap Maritime Heritage Foundation regarding a Contra Dance and Silent Auction on Nov. 1, at the Sons of Norway Hall in downtown Poulsbo.

I’m writing as a volunteer for the Kitsap Maritime Heritage Foundation regarding a Contra Dance and Silent Auction on Nov. 1, at the Sons of Norway Hall in downtown Poulsbo.

Doors are open from 6 p.m.-10:30 p.m. You can nibble and peruse our auction items, dance the nibbles off and be ready for fabulous desserts — all to support STEM education!

Kitsap Maritime is a non-profit founded in 2010. Our vision is that we “will be the premier venue in Puget Sound for seekers of a historic seafaring experience.”

More than 100 volunteers are currently restoring the schooner “Fiddler’s Dream,” a 65-foot, three-masted ship. It will be a floating classroom for STEM education for the youth of Kitsap County, preserving the marine heritage of the area, and give underprivileged youth an opportunity to learn about environmental issues firsthand as it travels around the Sound. Its history can be viewed at our website, kitsapmaritime.org.

Join us for the contra dance and silent auction. Live music for the dance will be provided by Country Capers, with Jane Landstra’s fiddle and Ken Embrey’s wonderful guitar and concertina.

This is a family event and all dances will be taught — no partners needed. Learn to contra dance with Susanne Giradot — no experience or partner needed. All of the silent-auction items are from local businesses and include art, food, services and experiences, many with a maritime theme.

“Fiddler’s Dream” will be completed by next spring, and will be a beautiful, traditional working ship in our harbors.

Spread the word and bring your friends for a great local night out.
