POULSBO — The boys cross country team at Crosspoint Academy, a Gateway Christian Schools school, has been named WIAA 2B State Academic Champions.

In the past year, Crosspoint won this award twice for boys cross country (2011, 2012), once for girls volleyball (2012), and once for boys track and field (2011).

The WIAA State Academic Championship goes to the team with the highest grade point average in each division. The girls volleyball team had an average GPA of 3.902; the boys cross country team had an average GPA of 3.849.

The award is presented during WIAA state championship tournaments. A state championship patch for letter jackets is also presented at the Crosspoint Fall Awards Ceremony.

“This honor means much to the students both as an achievement and as a stepping stone to collegiate activities,” said Mark Costa, director of admissions and communications. “Over half the boys cross country team is involved in the school’s dramatic efforts through Performance Company. They are preparing for a play that opens in November shortly after the State Cross Country Championship, which they recently qualified to attend by winning their District Championship title. These students split their time between athletic practice, drama practice, and school studies yet are able to accomplish all the tasks successfully. This is just a snapshot of the diversity of efforts that students at Crosspoint achieve daily.”

Gateway Christian Schools (www.gatewaychristianschools.org) is a regional Christian school with a preschool-sixth grade campus in Poulsbo (Gateway School) and a K-12 campus in Bremerton (Crosspoint).
