SUQUAMISH — The driver of a car that crashed into a Miller Bay Road home Saturday night has been released from the hospital but has not been taken into custody.
The 23-year-old Silverdale man was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton Saturday night after the Nissan 200SX he was driving plowed through a fence and into a mobile home at the intersection of Gunderson Road and Miller Bay Road near Suquamish. The car was being pursued by a Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy for reckless driving on Gunderson Road before the collision, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The collision occurred at about 7:30 p.m.
Harrison Medical Center spokeswoman Darcy Himes said Monday the man had been discharged from the hospital. She could not confirm what day he was released.
Deputy Scott Wilson said the man had not been booked into Kitsap County jail as of Monday afternoon.
Wilson said he had expected the man would be taken into custody following his release from Harrison. Investigators could be waiting on the results of a blood test before taking him into custody, Wilson said. Sheriff’s investigators believe the man may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The man is being investigated for two hit-and-run incidents stemming from the chase Saturday evening.
According to the sheriff’s release, a sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the Nissan after seeing it speeding and driving dangerously eastbound on Gunderson Road near Port Gamble Road.
The Nissan rearended a Toyota pickup being driven by a 36-year-old Poulsbo woman and continued driving, the release said. The driver of the truck was not injured and was able to drive away from the scene.
The Nissan continued down Gunderson but failed to turn at a T intersection with Miller Bay Road, which is controlled by a light. The car broke through a fence on the east side of Miller Bay Road and collided with a mobile home, knocking the building six inches off its foundation.
The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was later found by the deputy laying in grass near the crash scene, according to the release. He was treated at the scene then transported to Harrison by North Kitsap Fire and Rescue personnel.
The car was carrying two passengers — both 18-year-old Kingston men. One was transported to Harrison for non-life threatening injuries. The other passenger left the scene but was later found attempting to hitch a ride from passing cars.
The force of the collision knocked a woman inside the mobile home into a table. The woman’s 10-month-old daughter was also in the home. The mother and daughter were taken to Harrison for evaluation.
This story has been corrected to reflect that the girl inside the home was 10 months old.
