Chairperson and select and selected members of the Citizen Advisory Councils from Kingston, Hansville, Suquamish and Manchester met July 6 at the Nicholls Fire Station in Kingston to report what each CAC council is currently focused on and give input on the new Advisory Council Guidelines that county commissioners will review later this year and to be updated on Kitsap Transit planning.

Dick Hayes, executive director of Kitsap Transit, spoke about the impact of lower tax revenues on future transit plans, including Kitsap Transit’s recommended alternative to Puget Sound Regional Council’s Vision 2040 plan.

Hayes said that with the lowered revenue expectation, areas with higher population density have to be the focus of bus service.

Kitsap Transit will continue to provide the Access loop service for less densely populated areas such as Hansville, but even the current morning, mid-day and afternoon service could be reduced to possibly twice a day.

KT is also preparing for road closures in Suquamish beginning this fall, but the plan has not been finalized, Hayes said.
