KINGSTON — Kingston residents’ voices are sought to help prioritize items on the town’s future “to-do” list.

After a six-month-long brainstorming effort on behalf of the Kingston Citizens Advisory Committee and Department of Community Development, Kingston’s sub-area plan is almost complete.

However, KCAC co-chair Greg Plats said the committee wants the public to be involved in deciding the future of their town as the intent of sub-area planning is to turn residents’ visions for Kingston into reality.

The final sub-area meeting takes place tonight from 7-9 p.m. at the Kingston Community Center.

“The goal is for small groups to reach consensus and assign a high, medium or low priority to each idea,” Platz said. “This is not strictly a sit down with your ballot sheet and vote. That doesn’t promote communication or collaboration.”

The plan will be presented in its final state to Kitsap County commissioners for action in late summer.

“We are looking to reach consensus in prioritizing these action items so the more community input the better,” he said. “We’ve had decent turnout at the meetings so far and hope to get some other people there.”

There are four different groups of items on the sub area plan including big and small budget items, regulatory and community oriented items, he said.

“In those four categories they can’t all be a high priority. That won’t get us anywhere. We are under a timeline at the meeting. It’s going to be quick work.”
