Foster falters during shootout, Vikings advance to State | Boys soccer

RENTON — The North Kitsap Vikings won a game-deciding shootout against the Foster Bulldogs May 17 to advance to the 2A State Soccer Tournament.

North Kitsap’s Ryen Whitford scored the winning goal in the shootout for a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs scored an early goal in the 10th minute. However, North Kitsap’s Raul DeLuna scored off an assist by Brian Duran from a free kick in the 15th.

North followed up in the 27th with a goal by Ustav Shaha, off an assist by Nate Rake. The Bulldogs answered back in the 32nd to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The sudden death win means a State appearance by the Vikings, beginning with the first round, May 20 at North Kitsap Stadium. The Vikings (15-4) play Archbishop Murphy Wildcats (16-3) in the first round at 5 p.m. The Wildcats were the Cascade Conference champions and placed third in the District 1/2 Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Sedro-Woolley in the finals.

The Vikings (15-4) play Archbishop Murphy at 5 p.m. The Kingston Buccaneers (17-2), who won the District Tournament championship, play Orting at 7 p.m.
