A 24-year-old Bainbridge Island man is suspected of scratching his own arms to show police his sister hurt him.

At about 7 p.m. June 29 the man’s 30-year-old sister called police from her boyfriend’s home in Suquamish, yelling into her cell phone that her brother was hitting her.

He then fled the home on foot.

After chasing him through the woods, police were able to detain him at taser point.

Upon questioning the man, he said he ran to get away from his sister and claimed she had scratched him.

According to Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy reports there were three sets of three scratches on his forearm, which “appeared that [he] had intentionally scratched himself repeatedly in the same locations to make it appear that he had been injured.”

However, he said they were caused when his sister scratched his arms once.

When police handcuffed him, he told police that if they didn’t arrest him then something bad was going to happen that night in Suquamish.

“I have a problem with the judicial system and the judicial system has a problem with me,” he said.

The sister had no visible injuries but said she felt a little pain where he had hit her on her sunburned back.

The boyfriend’s statements of the event supported the accounts given by the sister.

The brother was arrested for fourth-degree assault and for interfering when she tried to report domestic violence.

His bail was set at $15,000.
