KITSAP — Washington Solar Incentives, a Poulsbo-based business, recently installed a 9.4 kilowatt solar array on the Rice Fergus Miller architecture and planning building, 275 Fifth Ave., Bremerton.

Once a Sears Auto Center, the building is on track for a Platinum LEED certification, according to a press release by Solar Incentives. LEED certification is the nationally accepted measurement for “green” buildings.

The public is invited to visit Kitsap’s “greenest building” on June 24 at Rice Fergus Miller’s open house from 3-6 p.m.

“The modules have tested for a 40-year life,” Solar Incentives owner Rick Lander said. “That leaves 30 plus years of free energy for commercial buildings like this one.”

Washington Solar Incentives recently started its second community solar project on Kingston High School. The companies’ first community solar project was a 75-kW span on the roof of the Poulsbo Middle School gymnasium. Another solar project is planned for Wolfle Elementary in the near future, according to Lander.
