Coastal Jam Friday, Suquamish Renewal Pow-Wow Saturday at House of Awakened Culture

People from area tribes gathered for a Coastal Jam Friday night at Suquamish's House of Awakened Culture in Suquamish Village, sharing traditional songs and dances. The annual Suquamish Renewal Pow-Wow is Saturday, 1-9 p.m., in the House of Awakened Culture. The pow-wow is open to the public.

SUQUAMISH — People from Puget Sound area tribes gathered for a Coastal Jam Friday night at Suquamish’s House of Awakened Culture in Suquamish Village, sharing traditional songs and dances.

The annual Suquamish Renewal Pow-Wow is Saturday, 1-9 p.m., in the House of Awakened Culture. The powwow is open to the public. It is presented by Suquamish Youth Services.

The grand entry is at 1 p.m.; the Royalty Pageant is at 4:30 p.m.

Host drum is Smokey Valley from the Sto:lo Nation. Master of ceremonies is Antone George of the Lummi Nation. Arena director is Sonny Eagle Speaker. Head Man is Gerald Brien. Head Woman is Clarissa Betancourt.

The powwow will feature jackpot dancing in all categories, sobriety honoring, and a hand drum contest.
