Check It Out for April

Our theme for the month of April is, “Clean and Green at Your Library!” We will be having a program on “Using Solar Energy in Community Projects” by Joe Deets of Community Energy Solutions. He will be speaking on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Indianola Room of the Community Center, downstairs from the library.

Libraries are the “ultimate green” as we recycle titles and items from cardholder to cardholder. Please remember that we have wonderfully green bags for you to carry your books and other treasures in, they can be yours for a small donation of $2.00.

The Kingston Library Book Group will be meeting on that same Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m., downstairs from the library in the Indianola Room. The title to be discussed will be Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones. On a war-torn tropical island, where the teachers have fled with most everyone else, only one white man chooses to stay behind: the eccentric Mr. Watts, object of much curiosity and scorn, who sweeps out the ruined schoolhouse and begins to read to the children each day from Charles Dickens’s classic Great Expectations.

On Tuesday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m., the Kingston Friends of the Library will meet downstairs in the Indianola Room. They will be preparing for their book sale to be held on Saturday, April 18, in the Kingston Room of the community center. Admission is for members only from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., then from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the general public.

Story times for preschoolers continue on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the library with Leigh Ann, our children’s librarian. Please come join her on April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 for stories, crafts, and loads of fun! Families and children are invited to come to the evening story times in their pajamas on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. on April 14, 21, and 28.

Several of you have asked for an additional book group to be formed at a different day and time – we will be holding an organizational meeting for a “classical” book group on Monday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. Please come and help us pick out titles to discuss.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kingston/North Kitsap Rotary Club for their generous donation towards the purchase of items for our library. Their past-president, Nancy Martin, recently presented us with a check in honor of the speakers that they have at their meetings.

When the items are here, I will let you all know, so that you can come in and “check them out!”
