KINGSTON — One man was transported to a local hospital while two others declined treatment in an apparent rear-end, chain-reaction crash that destroyed one vehicle and caused serious damage to two others, just east of Miller Bay Road on State Route 104 Tuesday evening, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Michele Laboda said.

NKF&R crews were called to the intersection at 4:37 p.m. Arriving at the scene, firefighters found damage to the vehicles suggesting that the driver of a full-sized pick-up truck had failed to stop in time to avoid hitting the older compact sedan stopped ahead. The pick-up’s canopy was ejected from the truck’s bed, coming to rest ahead of the crash site, and the vehicle’s front-end sustained heavy damage.

The driver of the pick-up refused medical treatment or transport. The compact sedan’s trunk and rear seat were completely demolished by the force of the crash. The driver of the sedan, a 45-year-old Poulsbo man, was taken to the hospital by paramedic unit with possible head and other injuries. The force of the collision pushed the sedan into the stopped vehicle ahead. That driver also refused medical treatment or transport.

The Washington State Patrol and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office were both on scene to investigate the details of the incident. The road was limited to one lane of travel until just before 6 p.m.
