KINGSTON — The SoundRunner passenger ferry will begin accepting ORCA cards starting Nov. 1. Port Commissioner Marc Bissonette said all the equipment is in place and is being tested, and users are currently able to purchase the transit cards for SoundRunner under Kitsap Transit.
“Eighty-five percent of Kitsap Transit buses [users] use ORCA,” he said, adding they hope that will mean additional SoundRunner passengers.
ORCA, or “One Regional Card for All,” is the fare transit card for King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties, managed by seven transportation systems, including Kitsap Transit. The card allows one method of payment for several transit systems.
Bissonnette also announced that Project Manager Kori Henry has been made executive director of the port, in charge of both SoundRunner and general port operations.
