Tracyton Community Library book sale: The Tracyton Community Library will have a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 30 and 31. Bags and boxes of books will be sold from $1 to $5. The sale will help support the all-volunteer non-tax supported library located at 351 NW Tracy Ave., Bremerton.

Pilates classes in Old Town Silverdale:

BODY reFORM, located on Bay Shore Drive in Old Town Silverdale, is currently registering for its spring quarter of Pilates classes. An introduction class will be offered Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings. All classes will begin the week of April 4 and continue for 10 weeks. Briefing of Manette Peninsula Aquifer and Illahee Watershed Aquifer Protection Plan:

A briefing discussing the underlying aquifers in Illahee and the surrounding area will be held at the Norm Dicks Government Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 29. Dr. Joel Massmann’s discussion will include explaining how much water is in these aquifers, where the fresh water comes from and where it goes. Massmann has more than 25 years of experience as a groundwater consultant.

“Tip-a-Cop” to benefit Special Olympics:

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies will be volunteering as servers at Red Robin, 10455 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. March 26 as part of “Tip-a-Cop.” The program will raise money to be donated to Special Olympics Washington and directly help athletes in Kitsap County. Last year, the deputies collected more than $6,500 in tips serving at the restaurant during their off-duty hours. “Tip-a-Cop” is a nationwide program in its 30th year with the goal of raising $600,000.

Essay contest open to Kitsap youth:

Kitsap County Liberty Tax Service’s “My Dream for America Contest” is open to those ages 3-18, with a deadline of April 15. This is an essay or drawing contest that encourages young people to share their vision for the future of the country. Children under 6 can submit drawings while those older can submit a written essay. Age-appropriate gift certificates from local businesses will be awarded to top entries. Navy invites public comment on Bangor Environmental Impact Statement:

The U.S. Navy has prepared an environmental impact statement to evaluate any potential environmental effects associated with the proposed construction and operation of a second Explosives Handling Wharf at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. Public input must be received by May 2 to be considered in the final version of the statement. The draft can be downloaded at www.nbkeis.com/EHW and input can be submitted online. A paper copy of the draft is also available at the Silverdale and Sylvan Way libraries. Comments can be mailed to Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Northwest, ATTN: Ms. Christine Stevenson, EHW2 EIS Project Manager, 1101 Tautog Circle, Silverdale, WA, 98315-1101. People can also address their opinions at public hearings. One is scheduled at 6 p.m. April 19 at the North Kitsap High School Commons, 1780 NE Hostmark St., Pouslsbo. Two other hearings are scheduled in Chimacum and Seattle.

‘Wizard of Oz’ ballet:

Dance Arts Theatre presents a ballet of “Wizard of Oz” at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center. The performance begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10. About 65 dancers ranging from ages 11 to 21 make up the company of the production. General admission is $12 and reserved seats are $15. Tickets for seniors, students and children 18 and under cost $8. Slide talk on Margaret Bourke-White at Sylvan Way library:

Kitsap Regional Library is sponsoring a slide show about photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at the Sylvan Way Branch, 1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton. Bourke-White was a ground-breaking American photographer who documented concentration camps at the end of World War II. She was also the first photographer hired by Fortune magazine. The program is free and open to the public.

Spring Grafting Show:

Peninsula Fruit Club presents its Spring Grafting Show and Workshop from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 26 at the Silverdale Community Center, 9729 Silverdale Way NW. Gardeners will be able to learn how to graft a fruit tree, add varieties to existing trees and watch videos on pruning and dealing with fruit flies. There will be potted trees, berries and other plants for sale as well.
