Rotary preparing for benefit golf tournament | Rotary News | April

Rotarians do more than meet for lunch on Wednesdays at noon. They are now working on their largest fundraiser of the year — the Verizon Golf Challenge for Kingston Rotary. Rotarians are visiting local businesses and encouraging them to “Swing for Rotary” by becoming a sponsor for this year’s tournament.

Early sponsors for the tournament are Liberty Bay Bank, Kingston CPA, Kitsap Bank, The Filling Station, Kingston IGA Grocery and Anchor Chiropractic. Verizon is the naming sponsor for the tournament, which is now in its fifth year.

The money raised by the tournament goes back to community through various service projects sponsored by Rotary. This year, Rotary has increased its focus on the area’s homeless population and also started a radio podcast, called “Service Above Self” radio, which is broadcast by Rotarian Tom Lamar. Rotarians sponsor blood drives and help support the food bank.

Rotary continues its focus on education by performing building improvement projects at the Kingston Co-op Preschool, sponsoring the Interact Club at Kingston High School, and awarding Rotary scholarships to deserving students. The club’s major hands-on work project will be to install trail-marker signs at the new Kitsap Heritage Park.

The Verizon Golf Challenge promises a fun-filled day for golfers on June 24. The White Horse Golf Club, an award-winning course designed by Cynthia Dye, has been groomed and is ready to go. The course is sunnier this year, with the removal of some trees, and 62 bunkers have been removed to make the course a more enjoyable play for golfers.

Teams can register online at  www.kingstonrotarygolf.com. The $120 fee per player will help fund Rotary’s community projects and scholarships.

There will be a catered lunch by Little City Catering and a special awards dinner at the end of play. It’s a big day in Kingston—one not to be missed.

Kingston Rotary welcomes new members who are interested in serving their community. Contact Nancy Martin at nanjmartin@mac.com to get details on our meetings, held Wednesdays at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club.
