Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue received a call in reference to an overturned boat with two individuals in the water at Island Lake at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
According to Ileana LiMarzi, public information officer for the Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue, two males in their mid 20s had been fishing and as one cast his line he slipped and fell out of the boat, causing it to capsize and send his friend into the water as well.
Two bystanders on shore swam out to help the men as a third bystander went out in a paddle boat. As CKFR crews arrived on scene everyone was making their way back to shore.
The two men were not wearing lifejackets.
CKF&R reminds readers that as you enjoy your summer please make sure to wear a lifejacket and take the proper safety precautions on the water.
In Central Kitsap there are lifejacket loaner boards located at Island Lake, Wildcat Lake, and Scenic Beach. Please use them and return them so that others may stay safe as well.
