Determining the sales tax rate where purchases are shipped or services performed just got easier for anyone with an Android smartphone.
A new Android mobile app lets those businesses quickly look up sales and use tax rates for any Washington location.
The free app developed by the Washington State Department of Revenue is now available at the Google Play Store.
“Businesses have asked us to find ways to make compliance easier for them, and this app is one of them,” Director Brad Flaherty said. “Our goal is to help taxpayers get it right the first time.”
The Android version follows the earlier deployment of an iPhone version that has been well received by businesses that provide services or make deliveries to multiple locations in the state. Under Washington law, the sales tax must be coded to the destination of a shipped or delivered product or where contractors perform services.
Businesses can use GPS or key in an address to get the rate, location code, and a confirmation code. They also can save the information to a list or forward it to another phone or email address, making the transfer of information from the field to a main office quick and easy.
