KINGSTON — Sophie Bonomi is the new editor of Kingston Community News.

She joined Sound Publishing in October as a reporter for the North Kitsap Herald and Kingston Community News. She became assistant editor of KCN in March.

She was appointed to her new role by Managing Editor Richard Walker, who steps into a support role as KCN’s editorial page editor.

Bonomi has been an avid writer of stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her creative imagination and thirst for adventure led her abroad.

A year after graduating from North Kitsap High School, she obtained a visa and a backpack filled with necessities and purchased a one-way ticket to New Zealand.

After 10 months of travel, she returned with clarity about her career plans: she would be a photographer. She loves to capture images of the world around her and to share stories about the people she meets.

She attended the Northwest College of Art and Design, where she graduated three years later with a bachelor of fine arts degree; she double-majored in photography and graphic design.

After internships with two prominent local photographers, a local magazine and a Seattle newspaper, Bonomi set out to begin her new career at the North Kitsap Herald. She started as a correspondent and quickly rose to sports and education reporter.

As a North Kitsap local for more than 12 years, Bonomi is excited to help continue to grow the readership, and retain the local feel, of KCN.

In her off-time, Bonomi enjoys writing, hiking, boating, traveling, and spending time with her husband and family. Her wicked sense of humor and uncanny passion for life help her to think outside the box.
