A 20-year-old Fort Lewis man was arrested after a crash the night of March 12 that injured a Bainbridge Island woman, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).

WSP said the 20-year-old man, in a Mercury Mountaineer, was turning left on northbound State Route 303 at NE Bentley Drive in East Bremerton at 9:45 p.m. when he ran a red light.

The 50-year-old Bainbridge Island woman, driving a Kia Optima, went through a green light in the southbound lanes of State Route 303 and T-boned the man’s car, according to WSP.

The woman had a dislocated and fractured right ankle and was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for treatment. The 20-year-old was uninjured and fled on foot.

He was later apprehended and the southbound lanes of State Route 303 were blocked for 2 1/2 hours.

It is unknown whether intoxicants were a factor in the crash, according to WSP.

The man was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail for felony hit and run. His bail is set at $25,000.

Must be Friday the 13th

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Cottage Bay Apartments on NE McWilliams Road in East Bremerton around 11 a.m. Friday, March 13. A woman was reportedly screaming and breaking windows.

Upon arrival, several people said the 35-year-old woman lives alone in the apartment and they didn’t think anyone else was inside with her. Deputies noticed two shattered windows and a man said he knocked on the woman’s door to see if he could help and she yelled, “Call the police, so I can go to jail!”

The deputies entered the apartment and the angry woman said she wanted to go to jail right then. She admitted to throwing a stool at one window and throwing a bed frame against another window with the intention of shattering both windows. She again said she wanted to go to jail.

While one deputy stepped outside to speak with the apartment manager, the woman became increasingly agitated about having to wait to go to jail. While in handcuffs, she stood up and kicked the walls. A deputy then sat her back down on the couch. The woman began calling the female deputy names and threatened to throw something at her so she could go to jail. The woman kicked an open beer can at the female deputy and eventually kicked over a coffee table.

A deputy tried to ask her more questions and the woman yelled, “You’re all a bunch of (expletives deleted) for making me wait!”

The woman mumbled and yelled throughout the entire car ride to jail, but once they arrived, she became more compliant.

The woman was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree malicious mischief. She was later released.

‘How’s the baby?’

A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale at 1:15 a.m. March 11 for a suspicious person. Hospital staff said a man had been pacing around outside the birthing center entrance, but later took off in a red car.

The deputy found the 24-year-old Central Kitsap man at All-Star Lanes in Silverdale. The deputy noted in his report the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The man took off running and the deputy returned to the hospital for more information about what happened.

A hospital employee said the man walked by her nursing station and asked where Room 24 was. She gave him directions, but later realized there was no patient in that room. A nurse then called her to warn her about a strange man in the parking lot. He had knocked on the woman’s car window.

The man also entered a 25-year-old patient’s room, placed his hand on her stomach and asked, “How’s the baby?” He told her he was a nursing assistant and asked if she needed anything. The man then asked her if she was alone and slowly backed out of the room.

The hospital employee said she doesn’t know how the man got inside the birthing center because he should have been required to sign in and get a pass. He did not have a pass.

Bremerton Police arrested the man that same day for residential burglary and the deputy questioned the man about the hospital incident at Kitsap County Jail.

The man said he didn’t remember being at the hospital, waking the woman or going to the bowling alley. The last thing he remembered was being at Old Town Bistro in Old Town Silverdale. The man admitted he had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

He was already arrested and booked into jail for residential burglary. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for charging with regard to assault, burglary and criminal impersonation.
