Serving on county advisory groups give citizens a voice
PORT ORCHARD — Kitsap County residents have the opportunity to express their diverse viewpoints, participate in local government and provide review and input to the Board of County commissioners by serving as representatives on county advisory groups. These volunteer groups of involved citizens provide Commissioners with a broad-based well of diversity, talent, knowledge and skills to tap into.

Student graduates Marylhurst University
Natalie Sovde, of Silverdale, will graduate from Marylhurst University in Oregon with a bachelor’s of art degree in interdisciplinary studies on Saturday, June 18.
Children of Eden performed at CSTOCK
Central Stage Theater of County Kitsap will perform “Children of Eden” as the final play in their 2015-16 season. Open water swim at Wildcat Lake
Join the Bremerton Family YMCA in an open-water swim, 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27. There will be a half-mile swim starting at 9 a.m. and a one-mile swim starting at 9:45 a.m. Each participant receives a commemorative T-shirt and swim cap. Each finisher will receive a medal. Awards will be given to top finishers in each age category. There will also be a raffle and music. The event is open to the public, and costs $30 to register. Mercy College of Health graduate
Deana Ladd, of Silverdale, graduated from Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa, with a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing.
Youth football camp set for June 22-24
From 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 22-24, Central Kitsap Middle School will be hosting a football camp and combine at the school’s football field, 10130 Frontier Place NW, Silverdale. Students entering second through eighth grade are invited to participate in the camp designed to develop basic football skills and techniques. The cost is $50 per player, or $40 each for multiple players in one family. Cost includes a camp T-shirt. Student graduates from Michigan Tech
Jordan McInnis, of Silverdale, graduated from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering. McInnis graduated from Central Kitsap High School before going to university in Houghton, Michigan.
Irene’s presents Studio to Stage performance
Irene’s School of Dance will present its “Studio to Stage” performance 7 p.m. June 17, 6 p.m. June 18 and 2 p.m. June 19 at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center.
The two-hour-long program will offer a variety of dance styles, including ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, tap, contemporary, modern and baton. Dancers from age 3 to senior citizens will perform. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and older and kids 12 and under.

Submarine technology displayed at museum
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, submarine technology will be featured at the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum. Step inside a real submarine control room in the submarine technology gallery; this recreated control room from a Cold War-era submarine, the USS Greenling (SSN-614) features equipment from the sub, including periscopes, the ship control panel, fire control panel and ballast control panal.

23rd annual Day of Caring on June 24
From 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, United Way of Kitsap County invites everyone to join in on the annual Day of Caring.
The event will kick off at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion on the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, where volunteers will meet other volunteers, enjoy a continental breakfast, mini-rally and receive T-shirts, bottled water and boxed lunches before heading out to their project sites.
Day of Caring is a great way to lend a hand in the community, providing labor needed to accomplish tasks that aren’t within normal budgets.

Eighth annual Kitsap Wine Festival Aug. 13
BREMERTON – The eighth annual Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park returns with a celebration of food, wine and community from 2-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Guests will enjoy live music, bites from local restaurants and tastings from Washington wineries and breweries set against the breathtaking views of Puget Sound and the Port of Bremerton Marina.
