Well, the Mustang has changed hands and the happy winner is Diane Lungaard from Kingston. She is a local music teacher and piano teacher of one of our prominent members, Dave Wetter.

Since the Mustang is quite an oldie-but-goodie, Dave went out and purchased a new tool kit just in case. Otherwise, he will be practicing piano for a long time.

There was a good story about the car and where the proceeds go in the North Kitsap Herald Sept. 14, page A19.

Kiwanis Club members elected a new board at our last regular meeting and it’s great when community members stand up and take responsibility and leadership positions in our local organizations.

The new board: President, Pat Bennett-Forman; vice president, Ken Hansen (webmaster and public relations); second vice president, Wendy Armstrong and Dahlia Malin (programs); secretary, Eric Roth; treasurer, Judy Osborn; trustees, Hal Hoover and Jeff Peterson (Kiwanis Foundation); and Dick Osborn, past president. They all are ready to continue our mission of helping children in our schools and community.

I’d like to update you on our Kingston High School Key Club, which is an organization of young people that help support our Kiwanis Club and have their own programs to help support our community. Kiwanis member Margaret Lemay  is our representative for the Key Club, and made the following report:

“Kingston High School Key Club is back in session as the 2012-13 school year is now well under way.  As a warm-up to school starting, three of our incoming Key Club officers attended the Pacific Northwest Key Club Seattle Rally in August. It was a day packed with speakers, workshops, music and dance.  More than 500 Key Clubbers from the area attended. We came away with a lot of new ideas for Key Club.

We were also able to attend the Kiwanis Division Picnic in Gorst in August with many of the local Kiwanis members. We are excited for a great year of service to our community. Our meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays at 1:45 p.m. in the first floor Yellow Pod.”     The Key Club has its own Kiwanis charter; members elect their own officers and develop their own programs. It is a great group of kids that helps our community while learning how to lead and grow into well-rounded adults.

We plan on a pre Apple Cup food drive at Kingston IGA and Albertsons on Nov. 17, prior to Thanksgiving. I hope everybody comes out and supports this effort.
