As I write this, our calendars say June, but it feels more like fall outside. Hopefully, the weather will have warmed up by the time this article goes to press. In the meantime, however, this is great weather for reading books, watching movies and other library pursuits!
The Kingston Library book group will be discussing, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2. Please drop by the library to pick up a copy and join us for the conversation – it should be a good one.
Our staff is marching in the Fourth of July parade this year. If you are interested in joining us, please let us know. We will be echoing the summer reading theme (see below) and the more the merrier.
The theme for the summer reading program this year is “Catch the Reading Bug!” Sign-ups are underway. Young people receive a roster where they will keep track of the amount of time spent reading or being read to. When they reach 10 hours, they bring the roster back to the library and trade it in for a free paperback and ticket to the Kitsap County Fair and Stampede (while supplies last). We will also be hosting many fun events at the library. Cowboy Buck will sing and play his guitar at 1:30 p.m. July 8 at 1:30. On July 22 at 1:30 p.m., Reptile Man will be here.
Storytime for Little Ones, 18 months to six years old, will be held on Saturdays at the Kingston Farmers Market at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. July 5, 12, 19, 26.
Teens are invited to play the Teen Rock Tournament game at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8. Come display your gaming skills along with your friends – musical skills helpful, but definitely not required! On July 22 at 6 p.m., we ask teens to come help solve an interactive mystery, “Rock and Roll Over Dead.” Prizes will be awarded and a fun time is assured!
The Kingston Friends of the Library do not have a meeting in July or August. They will be having their annual, stupendous book sale at the Kingston Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19. Donations are gratefully appreciated beginning right now – call drop them by at the library.
Take a look at the Kingston branch portion of the Kitsap Regional Library Web site at www.krl.org. We have updated it and added a book review feature. The first installment was written delightfully by our own Sara Freeman, who reviewed “House of Leaves.”
