While Central Kitsap students sleep in on spring break, several inches of snow fell in communities along the Hood Canal and Silverdale’s stretch of State Highway 3 saw a frosting of white.

Residents in Seabeck woke to find snow on the ground and some say it’s not unwelcome.

“It’s rockin’,” said Bill Evalt who owns Lone Rock Grocery and Deli on Seabeck Highway. “It was a nice surprise. I wish it would stay around a little longer.”

The flurries were a first for 57-year-old Australian Mick Walker, in town after marrying Seabeck resident Tonja Walker recently.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen snow,” Mick said, adding that he had heard it was too late in year for any snow to fall.

The snow caught weather watchers by surprise, said Johnny Burg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.

But don’t expect any more, he said.

“What you got this morning is probably the end of it,” Burg said.

As for the weekend, expect scattered showers and clouds.

Winds are expected to whip up Friday, with a high wind warning along the Hood Canal and a wind advisory for Bremerton, both in effect until 6 p.m.
