EDMONDS — Kingston ferry riders will se an influx of traffic this month in Edmonds.
Washington State Ferries will close the Mukilteo ferry terminal for maintenance from Friday to Sunday, on March 18-20, March 25-27 and April 1-3. Instead of running to Mukilteo, the Clinton (south Whidbey Island) ferry will instead travel a limited schedule to Edmonds.
“This work is vitally important to the safety of the Mukilteo terminal,” Assistant Secretary for Ferries David Moseley said in a statement. “We also realize it’s critical that we get this work done with as little disruption as possible to our riders who need to get to work, to school or other important activities.”
Ferries will sale between Edmond and Clinton 17 times on Fridays and 16 times on Saturdays and Sundays. WSF will distribute schedules for the temporary route at the terminals.
Signs will be placed on highways to alert drivers to traffic conditions at the Edmonds terminal, WSF spokeswoman Marta Coursey said. The Main Street intersection, up the hill from the Edmonds terminal, will see 35 minutes of ferry traffic per hour on weekends when the Mukilteo terminal is closed, compared to the regular 20 minutes. Law enforcement or Department of Transportation officials will monitor intersections near the terminal during the closures.
