Lady Cougars face loser-out game

After posting 17 goals in two games, the Central Kitsap girls soccer team was held scoreless at Gig Harbor Wednesday.

After posting 17 goals in two games, the Central Kitsap girls soccer team was held scoreless at Gig Harbor Wednesday.

The Lady Cougars (9-4-4), coming off 10-0 and 7-0 victories against winless Foss, the latter coming Tuesday to open the Narrows League Tournament, couldn’t find the net in Wednesday’s pivotal loss.

CK outshot Gig 8-6, but the Tides scored a game-deciding goal on an Alex Bohnett strike in the 55th minute. Cheyanne Thoma, a junior varsity defender who hadn’t played varsity this season, filled in at goalkeeper for CK starter Marilyn Prosser, who was unavailable.

“She did a wonderful job back there,” coach Vicky Webb said. “Just one defensive mistake.”

The loss means the Lady Cougars face a loser-out game tomorrow against Shelton, which lost 4-0 to South Kitsap Wednesday after opening the tournament with a 1-0 win over Mount Tahoma Tuesday.

CK defeated Shelton 4-1 in the teams’ only matchup of the regular season. A win tomorrow would put the Lady Cougars in winner-to-districts, loser-out game against the winner of tomorrow’s Wilson-Olympia game. That game would be either Nov. 2 or 3, with the winner getting the Narrows League No. 5 seed to districts.

“Everyone played hard, it just didn’t bounce our way,” Webb said.

Tomorrow’s game is at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

The Class 2A Lady Eagles (10-1-3), who closed the regular season with a 3-0 win over Kingston Tuesday, have clinched a No. 1 seed to the West Central District Tournament and will host a district game Nov. 7 at Silverdale Stadium.

The Lady Trojans (10-3-3) wrapped up the regular season Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over Port Angeles on Senior Night at Silverdale Stadium.

Goalkeeper Darrien Dorr posted her 12th shutout of the season, and Jalyn Halstead scored in the 33rd minute.

Oly hosts Timberline of the Western Cascade league in a loser-out sub-district game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Silverdale Stadium.
